Hayfever and Allergic Rhinitis

In general, rhinitis can be defined as an inflammation of the lining of the nose that can be accompanied by nasal congestion, nasal discharge, sneezing or itching.  Acute rhinitis is typically due to organisms responsible for causing the common cold or flu, whilst allergic rhinitis (including hayfever) is specifically triggered by inhaled allergens, usually at certain times of the year when they are in abundance.  Some of the symptoms from these two quite different conditions can be common.  Always consult your Healthcare Practitioner if symptoms persist with treatment.
